The Graduate, 1967, directed by Mike Nichols
The first time I saw this was in a film criticism class, during a thunderstorm in Amherst, Massachusetts. The rain outside mingled with the Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack. I was 17 and still in high school, and I had no idea how life has a way of drifting somewhere beyond your grasp. But I knew it was a beautiful film. And now, I appreciate the influence it’s had on other favorites like Garden State and (500) Days of Summer.
